Did you know this about Biggera Waters, Queensland?
If one person traveled west from The Broadwater, and another drove north from Labrador, it is likely that both persons would meet in a suburb called Biggera Waters.
Before the Biggera Creek enters The Broadwater, its cool and fresh waters flow through the suburb of Biggera Waters first, and the river is where the suburb’s name originated.
The first people in Biggera Waters got by through their fishing and agricultural industries. Eventually these industries have developed big players. A man is locally known as the patriarch of a prominent agricultural family, a man named John Siganto established his estate in Land’s End and named it Finis, the Latin word for the phrase ‘The End’.
Real estate development started to rush in Biggera Waters in the 1950s. 18 acres worth of land in the streets of Ocean, Broadwater and Stradbroke were sold for development. During this time, the northern part of Biggera Creek was also developed and Angler’s Paradise was established.
A decade after the first wave of real estate development, the bridge across Biggera Creek and Land’s End was finally declared to be usable. After the opening of the bridge, the real estate boom in Biggera Waters only went bigger than the first wave.
There were residential properties that gave the suburb its identity. Not only were homes cozy, there were also trees that came along with some of the houses to top it all off with a touch of green.
